Underwater scene

Underwater scene

Underwater scene:

Model of a crab in the sea with fish swimming by.

Using card, paper, tissue paper, mod roc and paint.

1st video showing how to start the crab

2nd video showing how to assemble the crab and put the claws and shell on.

3rd video showing how to make the underwater scene.

Step 1:

Make a round shape in a piece of card, cut into 4 angles and overlap the cut sides to make a bowl and celotape.

Shape a piece of paper to the underbelly off the bowl and celotape together. Use modroc to cover the bowl shape or use paper mâché to cover the shape.

Step 2:

Use pieces of card or paper and stick together to make the pinchers and claws. Use tissue paper for padding. Paste to front and top of crab.

Step 3:

Paste the claws onto the crab with 2 pinchers and stick 2 eyes on it.

Cut the carb shell and paste onto to crabs claws. Put tissue over the top to get a texture and pop 2 eyes on it.

Step 4:

Underwater scene - take 2 cereal boxes and pull them apart. Attach the 2 halves using PVA and use some card to make the base. Rip the card on the 2 sides to look like rock and use colour tissue paper to give texture and ‘marine’ rocky look.

Step 6:

Complete the scene using fishy silhouettes for the background, seaweed paper, and make the crab and scene look glitzy and sparkly using glitter. Image available soon for the complete piece:
