Forth sailing - Oil on canvas 80x100cms
Ready about...
Ready about ..Lee ho! The sailing term used for tacking to a different course when sailing- or put simply turning the boat and sailing a different direction into the wind. Sailing is exhilarating! I'm dedicating this Blog to those sailing this summer in particular: a young relative of mine who is sailing for Great Britain and friends of mine sailing in New York educating youngsters how to sail. They’re inspirational.
It reminds me of the good old days when I was a youngster sailing our dinghy around Chichester and Cowes on the Isle of Wight and the expeditions to Brittany with family on a friends 35 ft yacht.
But what has this got to do with art you may say?? Well, it's about adventure and how sport is an art in itself. Just when the wind changes in direction, we need to change our direction to keep to speed. But I would like your take on this... as with our ideas that we use to draw out an image - do you often change tack and change what you're working on because you need a different approach to keep your ideas fresh like the breeze?
I know I do - this is why art work often shows a history of changes and working within its texture and colour and vibrance, something like this image I'm showing this week. In a way I’m doing the same with Blind Create.
But hey, do you change your work mid flow because it requires a different direction? I welcome your thoughts…
Tailor made
Don’t we love something that’s tailor made, something that’s made to fit, made to measure, that’s custom made, high quality and very likely high price. Some people reply on tailor made items for accessibility and for many other reasons. I’m not sure that I have anything like this in clothes or any possessions because of various reasons, but I’ve provided the service in the form of artwork that would be considered tailor made. As an artist who has worked on commission I’ve regarded making art work for clients as making a ‘tailored made’ artwork that has high quality and uniqueness that the client knows they can’t find elsewhere. It’s special to them and the maker, which makes for a superlative image.
I think that an artwork that we make to show and/or sell is different to ‘tailer made’. Tailor made really refers to making items purposefully for an individual client. Would you agree?
I think of my own artwork as unique processes of my imagination, that few could identify my style of work with anyone else or any movement, but I can acknowledge that some may view this differently. However I believe that many would say that most work can be identified as being similar to other artists work in some way. Is this what other artists think of their own work or would you want to be compared to others or other approaches? I open this question to you?
PAMIS:
Now other news: talking about tailor made- I’ve been in discussion with PAMIS and their creative team in a fantastic collaboration, about providing art session to youngsters. Further details about this will be made available soon. PAMIS stands for ‘Promoting A More Inclusive Society’.
Welcome everyone!
Hi to you all. In this first Blog, the first I’ve ever written, I’m going to say a big welcome to you, and hope that you’ll join me on journey of discovery, sharing ideas about art, and our stories to inspire you and anyone you know to create art in 2D or 3D.
This is to be a weekly Blog, so that I can tell you what’s happening and when. So this week this the following is due to happen:
A short 9 question survey through survey monkey is going on Blind Create to find out what you think.
‘Connect Voices’ for the RNIB are likely to do the survey shortly.
The weekly e-newsletter ‘Independent Living’ is including an article on ‘Blind Create’ on Wednesday this week, which is seen by many people in the UK. They are a information service for people with disabilities.
A Testimonial page is going to be on Blind Create very shortly, with comments from those who would like to support Blind Create and to say what they think.
Of course this Blog is new, and I would like to put up your stories, ideas and suggestions.
So Blind Create has now launched in August 2021, and the story is now to be written from here. Please join me in this exciting journey to make this a success. If you have a story, idea or comments please contact me on the contact page.
David’s 3rd Blog
A week of further developments and changes to Blind Create.
The website is now predominantly a warm yellow in contrast with the black type face, to make reading more accessible, and is larger type. If you have any comments about this please take the survey. or drop me a line.
A very productive week after talking to several people from different charities.
The Founder of MASIS UK, Peter Lyne, is very interested in collaborating with Blind Create and I am in discussions with ideas to develop Blind Create with MASIS (Mobility and Support information Service’.
West of England Sight charity, are keen to hold an art exhibition of art work by blind and partially sighted people, and are interested in artwork made by Blind Create clients. If you would like to be part of this, either contact me or revisit Blind Create again and I’ll hopefully have more information. The exhibition which aims to be annual and is due to be in Bristol, but details are to be confirmed still.
There have been further interest in the specialist art classes, which is very encouraging. I cover some art techniques and understand about your needs as a client.
The welcome page now shows the page on historical artists who were blind and partially sighted, and how to prepare your studio, to make it easier to scroll down for this information.
If you have any stories about your artwork please write in, until then keep revisiting for more updates.
Two clients
Almost the 4th week week since launch and Blind Create developing further. Masis is now the charity that’s in collaboration and their logo is featured on the page. The Founder of MASIS - Peter Lyne has been developing Masis for many years and some very important advancements are in the pipeline nationally and globally. I’ll be talking about Masis in the weeks ahead and how Blind Create is developing a most valuable collaboration. Masis stands for (Mobility and Support Information Service).
Blind Create is also proud to welcome 2 clients, the first has made a wonderful painting of an owl, and 2nd made a very striking drawing on Brighton Pier this week while being guided by David how to draw his Brighton’s Palace Pier.
Alongside Blind Create, my artwork is being noticed and I’ve had requests for several artworks as Giclee prints. So I am now taking steps to introduce Giclee prints for every artwork as limitless editions, so that any number of prints can be made and sent by a Fine Art printer to any client globally. In the meantime I’m putting on buttons for individual artworks for any requests I receive under Gilcee prints.
I am continuously updating the site, and may add to this blog as the week progresses. I would like to start introducing stories and ideas for art work, but ideally would like you the reader to share your ideas. Be part of the journey and share your thoughts on Blind Create.
Until next week…

I’m also in discussion next week with MASIS ‘‘Mobility and Support Information Service’’, who are very interested in what Blind Create can offer. This is a very exciting opportunity and I’m preparing a short statement for their Network and Collaborative page.
A Survey (SurveyMonkey) is available now to take to find out what you want and like about Blind Create, and how we can improve.
Also I’m talking to Sense UK next week, to discuss Blind Create in a number of ways.
