Inspiring Horizon
An inspiring development for Blind Create I’m keen to call an ''Inspiring Horizon'' has started two weeks ago when I took over ''Pamis Art for wellbeing group'' an online art group that’s organised by the charity Pamis which stands for ''Promoting a more inclusive society''. I set aside Mondays for an online art group that have been gathering for sometime, during the earlier time of the pandemic. The art group consists of youngsters who have profound physical and multiple learning disabilities, who are developing their artistic talents with assistance from their parents and supporters.
We started with an introduction session in which I got to know the group a little bit, as it’s about building relationships and confidence. The group tried a simple 30 mins art project by drawing and colouring a butterfly. and after a fruitful start, the following week we started an Autumn project about a Farmyard. The project is in its 4th week and resumes after postponing last Monday on the Bank Holiday to Honour the funeral of Her Majesty.
My website shows the step by step stages of their project and may include more of their work as they develop their skills. The artists are inspiring young people and have already shown past projects as part of the Edinburgh Book Festival both this year with ‘’Dugie the Dinosaur’’
https://learning.edbookfest.co.uk/resources/dugie-the-dinosaur-a-multi-sensory-story/
and last year too with Alexandra Strick and Steve Antony and their book “You Can”. So to be guiding these inspiring individuals with their assistants is delightful, and they are already enjoying the art processes. I like to be theatrical, so I've adopted the nickname Dave the ‘hatman’ as I wear a different hat every session. Hoping these art sessions on Mondays prove successful for the artists, and that this may lead onto further projects with them and I hope to be able to do a further blog to describe the Autumn farmyard project when completed and perhaps further blogs to describe their progress.
They are an ‘‘Inspiring Horizon’’ of what it means for Inclusion in Art.
